Veneers and Laminates
Here at Westlake Dental Center, we’re equally concerned about the appearance and function of your teeth. How it looks affects your whole appearance and if your teeth don’t look good, it can lower your self-confidence. If you find it uncomfortable to smile because of your teeth, we have dental solutions like veneers and laminates to help you.
How Do Veneers and Laminates Work?
The terms “veneer” and “laminate” refer to the same thing. It’s essentially a very thin layer of material that we shape to cover up your teeth so as to hide any imperfection. Our goal is to make you look better. With veneers and laminates people will no longer see chips, deep stains, or large spaces between your teeth. Unlike crowns, these dental solutions don’t cover up the whole teeth. It only covers the front of the teeth.
In general, we use porcelain (ceramic) as material for our veneers. This is because porcelain looks exactly like real tooth, which means other people will never know you’re wearing a cover on your teeth. It looks so natural that it even reflects light in the same way that your tooth enamel does. And porcelain is much more resistant to staining than any other material available.
Are You a Candidate for Veneers?
When you visit our clinic, we will check your teeth for any cosmetic problems. And if our dentists will recommend veneers and laminates as the most viable solution then we will discuss this option with you. Contact us to schedule a consultation for veneers.
We can use the veneers to cover up the chips and cracks on your teeth. They also cover teeth with deep stains that our professional teeth whitening options can’t handle effectively. We can even use them to close large gaps between your teeth and to cover up any minor misalignment.
However, we first need to make sure that you’re a good candidate for veneers. Once that’s determined then we will prepare your tooth for a veneer by reducing the front area so that it can accommodate the extra width of of the veneer. And we also need to make sure that you still have enough material in your tooth.
This means if you have severe tooth decay, a veneer may not be a good idea. It is also not recommended if you’ve had a root canal treatment on the problem tooth. What it needs is a crown not a veneer. Other factors that will prevent us from recommending veneers are gum disease and teeth grinding (bruxism).
But it doesn’t mean veneers are out of the question. Usually, it only means we need to fix those dental problems first. Once the tooth decay, gum disease, or bruxism has been addressed, then we can proceed to installing veneers on your teeth.
What to Expect
We’ll first determine how many veneers are needed, their shape, and color. Once the planning and initial assessment is done, we will prepare your teeth for the veneers. We will make a mold of your teeth so that we can fit the veneers properly. When you come back on your second visit, we will install the veneers securely in place. You will leave our dental clinic with a much improved smile and will feel more confident about yourself.
